In a statement on Thursday, the Constitutional Council commemorated the day of 13th of Aban, the National Day against the Global Arrogance.

Constitutional Council marks national day of fight against global arrogance

“13th of Aban represents three occasions. Each event is recorded as a golden page in the glorious history of the revolutionary people of the Islamic of Iran against the global arrogance,” the statement read.

It added that the first occasion that the 13th of Aban represents is the day when late Imam Khomeini was forced into exile in 1964 because he had demanded a national right. That national right was the annulling of the oppressive legal immunity granted to US soldiers called Capitulation.

“Another event which the National Day represents is what happened to students in the year 1357. The 13th of Aban is the day when our students stood up against the tyranny of the Pahlavi regime and were massacred in the streets of Tehran”.

The statement further said, “The capture of the den of espionage is another historic event that the 13th of Aban represents”.

It noted that the Islamic Republic of Iran has successfully passed numerous plots and hostile acts in the past years, growing stronger day by day with the help of the people.

“Iran has made great progress in the past years in different scientific fields, making enemies angry and desperate. It has also turned into a powerful and influential country in the region”.

On November 4, 1979, and in less than a year after the victory of the Islamic Revolution that toppled a US-backed monarchy, Iranian university students that called themselves "students following the line of (the late) Imam (Khomeini)" seized the US embassy in Tehran, which had become a center of espionage and planning to overthrow the newly established Islamic system in Iran.

The students who seized the embassy later published documents proving that the compound was indeed engaged in plans and measures to overthrow the Islamic Republic.

Every year on the 13th day of the Iranian month of Aban (which this year falls on November 4), the Iranian nation, particularly the students, hold rallies across the country to mark the day.
