Constitutional Council approves plan to suspend cooperation with IAEA

Tehran - The spokesperson for Iran's Constitutional Council has announced the Council's approval of a parliamentary plan requiring the government to suspend cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

In an exclusive interview with IRNA on Thursday, Hadi Tahan Nazif said, “The Constitutional Council has thoroughly examined the legislation and concluded that it is not inconsistent with Islamic principles or the provisions of the Constitution.”

He explained that, under this resolution, the government is obligated to halt all cooperation with the IAEA in response to violations of national sovereignty and attacks on Iran’s nuclear facilities, carried out by the Zionist regime and the United States.

According to the plan, cooperation with the IAEA will remain suspended until full guarantees are provided for Iran’s sovereignty and territorial integrity—particularly the protection of nuclear sites and personnel—as well as the country’s right to peaceful nuclear activities under Article 4 of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), including uranium enrichment.

Tahan Nazif added that the final determination of relevant conditions and national interests will rest with the Supreme National Security Council.

The Iranian Parliament passed the bill on Wednesday.
