In a statement issued on the occasion of the Sacred Defense Week, which marks the onset of the Iraqi imposed war on Iran (1980-1988), the Guardian Council said the Holy Defense has left a treasure trove of memories of self-sacrifice, steadfastness and resistance in the face of arrogant powers, including the US and its stooges.
"The Sacred Defense Week is an opportunity to remind and recognize this invaluable and great epic which has now turned into a perfect paradigm for all generations and freedom seekers around the world," it added.
In Iran, the 1980-1988 Iran-Iraq war is known as the Sacred Defense, and the Sacred Defense Week is held on the anniversary of the beginning of the war.
Every year, in late September, the Iranian Armed Forces attend parades to honor the Sacred Defense Week in remembrance of the martyrs in the eight-year Iraqi-imposed war.
