Iran’s parliament okays new jurist for Constitutional Council
According to the public relations office of the Guardian Council, Molabeigi received 141 votes on Wednesday.
The vote took place after Judiciary Chief Gholam-Hossein Mohseni Ejei introduced two candidates for the posts. Seyed Mohammad Hadi Raji, the second candidate, failed to garner the necessary votes to be elected as a jurist member of the Council.
Molabeigi, who holds a PhD in Public Law, replaces Mohammad Dehqan who is currently serving as the vice president for legal affairs in the administration of President Ebrahim Raisi.
Under Article 99 of the Constitution, the responsibility to supervise elections lays with the Guardian Council.
The 12-strong body consists of six Faqihs appointed by the Leader and six jurists nominated by the Judiciary and confirmed by parliament.
