Iran opens pre-registration for March parliamentary vote

Candidates for the 290-seat parliament have a week to pre-register online, the first step in a monthslong process.

Hadi Tahan-Nazif, the spokesman of the Constitutional Council, said in an interview late on Sunday that the pre-registration process would be held for the first time ever in accordance with the Parliament’s new election law.

“At this stage, relevant institutions and public authorities such as the Judiciary, Ministry of Science, Research and Technology and Civil Registry Organization would look into the documents uploaded by the aspirants and verify their authenticity. The Constitutional Council would only monitor the procedures,” he said.

The 12th Parliamentary Elections and 6th Assembly of Experts Elections will be held in Iran on March 1, 2024.
