“The system of the Islamic Republic of Iran has no meaning without the people and basically cannot move forward,” Abbas-Ali Kadkhodaei said late on February 22.
Highlighting the importance of people’s lively participation in the country’s presidential elections in June 2021, he said, “The Revolution and the Islamic Republic of Iran belong to people and important breakthroughs can be achieved through the power of people”.
Referring to recent remarks by Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei about the people's participation in the poll, Kadkhodaei said, “As the Leader put it precisely, an enthusiastic participation in the election will guarantee the future of the country and cure serious problem”.
He added that “a competent, pious, and motivated” choice would greatly help to that end.
Iran will hold the next year’s presidential election on June 18, 2021 amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Candidates hoping to run in the next elections are to apply in early April for approval. The final list is to be announced by the Constitutional Council in early June.
The Constitutional Council is a constitutionally mandated 12-member council in Iran that, among other things, is tasked with ensuring the compatibility of the legislation passed by the parliament with the criteria of Islam and the Constitution.
