Iran Constitution calls for defending the oppressed in face of arrogance: Spokesman

“Iran’s Constitution, with reliance on Islamic principles, emphasizes the need to defend the oppressed in the face of arrogant powers. Today, the Palestinian people are prime example of an oppressed nation in the world,” Hadi Tahan-Nazif wrote in a tweet on Friday on the occasion of the International Quds Day.

He added, “The issue of Palestine has uncovered the true face of the Front of Falsehood, exposing scandals and crimes caused and committed by those claiming to be human rights advocates”.

Millions of people on Friday took to the streets for Quds Day rallies around the world to show solidarity with the Palestinians and condemn Israeli atrocities against them.

In Iran, demonstrations started at 10 a.m. local time (0530 GMT) in Tehran and some 900 others cities and towns across the country.

The International Quds Day is an annual event during which demonstrators express their solidarity with the Palestinian people and opposition to the occupation of the Palestinian territories by the Zionist regime of Israel.

The day is also seen as the legacy of the late founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Imam Khomeini, who officially declared the last Friday of the holy month of Ramadan as International Quds Day back in 1979.
